New "Friends"...?

Can someone please explain to me why I have suddenly been getting an influx of Eastern European journals friending me, only to disappear within two weeks, only to be replaced by another one? At first, I thought it was cool that I was getting more foreign readers, but I'm starting to suspect that they're trolls. Their profiles are all in perfect English, but their journals are in an Eastern European language and all look to have the same set-up. The first three were actually the exact same journal under three different names, all posting the same pictures and captions at the same time. I'm very confused and would like to know what's going on. Are these people actual readers or are they trolls? Since I can't read their journals myself (I'm not even sure exactly what language they're in, but I suspect Russian), I was hoping one of you guys might know.

I feel guilty even talking about this, in case they really are readers. I don't want to offend them, but I would feel better about the 2-4 email notifications I get a day if I know for sure they're legitimate readers. I've already received three this morning and it's barely 10 AM.

It hasn't happened to me, personally, but I have heard of others having to block Russian journals. It seems to be everywhere all of a sudden. So I'd say they're not really readers.

Thank you. Blocking them is probably the best idea.

this happened to me as well and i never even write in this journal (this journal is just for comms), so i think its safe to say they arent readers. I didnt block them and they've never made any contact me so im just like "eh, whatever"

Huh. It's so weird, and a bit worrisome in consideration of what others have said.

Really? Crap. That's happened to me before, in a different fandom. I really hope that doesn't happen.

I haven't added any of them because none of them ever have any kind of age statement on their journal, so that isn't an issue, thankfully. I've put in a complaint to LJ; we'll see if they do anything about it.

Please be very careful, change your password and block them.
I have read about a few other people in HP fandom (that I stalked) having a influx of russian journals friending them before they journals was hacked, taken over and destroyed.

=) stay safe!

That is very worrisome, but if something that disastrous happens, I do have this entire journal, including comments, archived on my computer, so nothing will be lost. I will change my password, though. Thanks for the heads-up.

One of the victim is copperbadge/sam_storyteller of Stealing Harry fame. It was horrible. Be careful okay? :)

Yeah, it's probably trolls...that's why if I don't recognize them, I don't friend...and I check their journals as well...no activity, means a no no. So, it's good your cautious.
