I need to rant this out, and this is the only place to do it.
Why is everyone so obsessed with Kate Middleton?
My problems with Princess Catherine:
1.Yes, she lived out a fairytale. Sort of. The fact that her family actually has more money than the royal family does not make her Cinderella, despite what others might think. She was already living a privileged lifestyle or she never would have met Prince William in the first place. Getting the crown doesn't seem like much of a step up for her on the social ladder. Her family might have been "new money", but they were still "money", which is more than most people can say for themselves.
2. If I hear one more exclamation about how amazing it is that she caught Prince William's eye at a university fashion show, I might pull my hair out. She was wearing this:

Put a garter on her thigh and she looks like she's ready for the bedroom. Of course she caught his eye. He's a man. That is not something to be commended for. Especially since the outfit she was wearing was a] not meant to be a dress, but a skirt b] was meant to be worn with a slip under it so that the model wasn't flashing the audience like a streetwalker c] is hideous.
3. When she accepted Prince William's proposal, despite being thin to begin with, she went on some sort of diet/extreme exercise regimen for the wedding that has left her rail-thin and frail looking. For someone who is supposed to be a role model to young girls and young women everywhere, this is an incredibly irresponsible thing to do. By becoming so thin that it is difficult to see her when she turns to the side, she is sending a message to every little girl and every teenager who aspires to be like her that the only way they will ever successfully find and 'bag' their Prince Charming is if they starve themselves and run 15 miles a day.
She went from a perfectly healthy this:

to this:

Why was it necessary and what sort of message could she possibly think she is sending to young girls?
4. I do not understand why people consistently call her a 'style icon'. Her style is incredibly safe and boring. Almost all of the dresses I have seen her in in the last year have come in one of two forms:

There has been a tiny bit of variation, but not much. Do these looks work? Yes. Are they stylish? Yes. Are they safe and incredibly over done? Yes. And yet she is still consistently in the style pages as a fashion icon.
Anne Hathaway is a style icon.

Kate Middleton is just a pretty girl with a title.
