Wow. So, I've watched 4.5 episodes of the Vampire Diaries. So far, the only things that are even remotely like the books are the names, the lore, and the writing in diaries. I didn't think it was possible to stray that far from a book plot and still claim the show has anything whatsoever to do with the books.

And actually, now that I think about it, not even all the names are the same. I'm pretty sure Elena had a 4-year-old niece, not a 15-year-old brother.

I forgot about that one. VD's definitely on the same level of separation. I have to confess that I liked the Blood and Chocolate movie better than the book. Aiden was such a better character minus the bell bottoms and plus the backbone. And the whole Gabriel/mother figure was much less awkward when it was her aunt who was sleeping with her betrothed and not her own mother.

Weird that they're both vampire/werewolf books.
