I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in a 36-hour period.

I will be on a plan to NYC in exactly 24-hours! Yay! That being said, I doubt I will have much access to the internet for the next week. I'm not bringing my laptop, don't have a smartphone, and my nook's browser is still pretty craptastic. So don't expect any activity from me for a week. I'll see you all when I get back (with lots of pictures!)

After fiddling for... probably 4 hours, I finally have a lovely new layout. Do you like?

With less than 5 hours to go before I see it, I am predicting now that I am going to lose my shit. Just saying. I lost my shit in the book when Dobby died and I didn't even like Dobby. Seeing it on screen might just be too much.

Wow. So, I've watched 4.5 episodes of the Vampire Diaries. So far, the only things that are even remotely like the books are the names, the lore, and the writing in diaries. I didn't think it was possible to stray that far from a book plot and still claim the show has anything whatsoever to do with the books.

And actually, now that I think about it, not even all the names are the same. I'm pretty sure Elena had a 4-year-old niece, not a 15-year-old brother.

That's not even fair, Doctor Who. I cried for a good five minutes of that episode. Not fair at all.

I have just finished watching "Cold Blood" and I. Do. Not. Approve.

EDIT: Three hours later and I still do not approve. The Doctor better fix this shit and fast.

I can watch Lost now! Yay! For all those saying, 'Um? What? The show just ended. For good. You're an idiot.' I know it sounds dumb, but I've been waiting until the end of the series before watching it all. I started watching Lost when it first went on air, and watched faithfully through season 3. I don't remember exactly why, I think something to do with me never remembering to turn the tv on at the right time, but I lost track of the show in the middle of season 4. Since then, I've been waiting for it to all be over so that I can watch the whole thing from episode 1 to episode 121. And now I can! Yay!

The Doctor. Hands down. How could that even be a question? Who wouldn't automatically pick him? A "day" in his world could be a whole lifetime! And even if we were strictly limited to a 24-hour-period, there's no telling how many different alien worlds he could show me in that time.

In the last five years, I studied abroad in England, graduated college, got a 'real job', and started graduate school.

I think all of these things were positive, but especially the study abroad and the 'real job' parts. They both have helped me to grow up a lot more and to learn to navigate the world on my own. Now if only that 'real job' would pay enough for my to afford grad school and moving out of my parents' home, and not just one or the other.

Just saw Alice in Wonderland and it was lovely! Absolutely nothing like the books (or at least the first one, I don't remember much of the second), but lovely still. I saw the 2D version, which I prefer because then you don't have to wear those funny glasses. They're only cool and comfortable if you're the Doctor, thank you very much, and I'd rather not get dizzy anyway.

And it had Alan Rickman! AND Christopher Lee (for all of one line)! I didn't even know Christopher Lee would be in it, but that was definitely his voice. And the girl who played Alice was very good, indeed.

And the weather outside today?! I walked out of my house without a coat and wasn't even cold! Yay for Spring!

Good news:

- I think I finally have my recommendation/application to grad school situation sorted out. At least, I don't think I'll be losing sleep over it anymore.

-My book talk presentation is finished and I think I did pretty well. And I wasn't the only one shaking like a leaf, so woo hoo on that one! If you want details/are interested in the books I talked about, feel free to ask. It was about re-told fairy tales, jfyi.

- I finally got re-caught-up on Classic!Who.

- I'm only about a day's worth of knitting away from finishing my dad's socks, that I've been working on since his birthday, last June.

- I will have a little bit more time to write this week, as I have been selected for Jury Duty and will be trapped in a basement with several dozen other people, most of who will probably be bitching.
